  Independent living communities are typically apartment style buildings or villas that cater to active adults who do not require a lot of hands-on care. Within these communities, there is not a nurse on staff. Often the resident will have options for one bedroom or studio style apartments with various floor plans to meet individual needs. Most are equipped with a kitchenette, laundry facilities, a gym or exercise area, common social and living areas. There is often an activity director on site who provides a calendar of events for the residents to keep them involved daily. Housekeeping may also be available in certain communities. Independent residents live in an environment where they can maintain their independence and enjoy the luxuries of chef-prepared meals. There is entertainment, social activities with other residents, fitness activities, transportation to events and much more! 

  Assisted living communities are Licensed and Regulated by the California Department of Social Services. Communities may offer private or semi-private apartments, and some are equipped with microwaves and small refrigerators. They provide a variety of personalized care plans that meet the needs of every resident which may include assistance with bathing, dressing, and medication management. In-house care givers are also available 24 hours per day, to assist with daily activities and transportation. These communities are designed to allow the senior to continue living an independent lifestyle while having the additional assistance needed to feel safe and secure. 

 Memory care communities are licensed and Regulated by the State of California Department of Social Services. These communities specialize in caring for those residents with mild cognitive impairment, Dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's. Some independent and assisted living communities offer scaffolded services for care so that the resident can remain within the community as they transition to their various stages of life. Memory care communities focus on creating a safe and supportive atmosphere that promotes dignity and well-being. These communities offer mostly shared room or studio apartments, 3 meals per day and activities specially tailored for those who need memory support.  

 Board and Care Home or "Residential Care Facility for the Elderly" (RCFE) is a different type of Assisted Living community. These care homes typically have 6 residents who live together in one home and are provided with a more personalized care experience. This is a great option for those who may enjoy a smaller home environment. These care homes are licensed by the state of California Department of Social Services and provide non-medical care services. Care givers assist with bathing, dressing, cooking, feeding and medication management. These communities will also have similar activities as the larger communities but may also cater to smaller settings activities such as gardening, walking in the neighborhood and smaller group outings. Many of these communities can accommodate couples, as well as care for people with higher needs of care.
